December 31, 2007 I decided that I would not eat dessert at all in 2008. 292 days later (last Saturday, October 18th) I found myself holding onto a delicious looking, peanut buttery, chocolaty chunky, bowl of ice cream. My daughter didn’t want to hold it, and she didn’t want to eat it. She’s 2. I guess she has the right to say she wants ice cream and to then change her mind and make me hold it while she frolics about. Anyhow, I found myself consumed with the need to eat the ice cream, so I ate it. I also ate some ice cream and apple crisp when I got home. Oh yeah, I also had a cookie.
Why?
This past summer I had heart surgery. I’ve had (past tense I hope) heart problems for about 8 years. Sugary foods tended to cause problems for me, so I figured I would cut desserts out of my diet. I’ve never been a dessert guy anyway, so this really wasn’t a big deal for me. I also decided to give up beer in 2008, as alcohol used to cause me problems. That resolution lasted less than 2 weeks.
Disappointed?
Hell no … though my daughter was when she finally decided that she wanted her ice cream back!
